Meeting other people does not have to be strenuous or arduous despite moments when I want to be secluded, isolated or alone. Staying within a hostel setting, there are people constantly cycling through the common grounds of the hostel. Everyone is from all walks of life. Germany, France, Australia, UK, and so many other countries. We all come together for a moment in time with a common interest… to meet, interact, and be open minded about everyone’s origination. There’s no room for judgement, no room for critiquing anyone. Not their appearance, not their personality, not who they are as a person. This is a time to connect, befriend people I openly connect with, and to just learn about who they are as a person. Most travelers are friendly, open-minded, and sociable, so there’s no need to feel withdrawn or reserved with trying to strike up a conversation.
Several times on this trip here in Thailand, I felt a little bit withdrawn and wanted to be left alone, but by allowing myself to open up, be friendly, and connecting on a personal level to others who are staying at the hostel, I found the friendly interactions to be a fabulous encounter, and one worth having. Then, through connecting with Instagram, it’s possible I reconnect with them later in the weeks or months to come in other destinations around the world. So many travelers are exploring for many months at a time, and to avoid feeling disconnected from back home, people need to socialize and connect with other people to feel welcomed, and this is why it’s so easy to strike up a conversation with other, fellow travelers. Friendly, positive attitudes from all walks of life! It’s a beautiful thing !
So, continue to connect, continue to be friendly, and never stop meeting new people who could end up becoming long term friendships or relationships.
